A little over a week ago, Raleigh and I, along with five of her girlfriends and their mommas, headed up to our mountain home for the weekend to celebrate her last single-digit birthday, and we just had the best time. <3 One of my biggest hopes when we bought our mountain home was that it would serve as a place of rest, restoration, re-connection, and memory-making. And Raleigh's birthday party weekend served all of those purposes for us gal pals of all ages. :) A look at how we celebrated my sweet Raleigh Jane turning 9:
The girls only had a half-day of school that Friday, so we were able to leave around lunchtime and were there in no time. We arrived, unpacked, threw some white chicken chili in the crockpot to cook for a few hours, and snacked in the meantime. Nails were painted, make-up was done, favors were given, gifts were opened, crystal clear views were taken in, and lots of fun was had!
After dinner, Raleigh blew out her birthday candle and we just spent some good quality time catching up and cozying in. We went to bed ready for a fun Day 2!
The next morning, after breakfast and plenty of coffee chat for the mommas, hot chocolate for the daughters, cookie decorating, and down time, we all changed into our warmest winter wear and headed into downtown Blowing Rock for the day.
We played in the snow, shopped around, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and then headed to App Ski Mountain for our ice skating reservation. When I later asked, the girls said the ice skating was their favorite part. We had a great time!
After breakfast and packing up, it was sadly time to head home. Luckily, the kids were off from school on Monday for a teacher workday, so we knew we'd all have an extra day at home with our families to get back some of the sleep we traded in for late night conversations and early morning giggles. <3
It truly was such a wonderful weekend with friends we love, and we are so thankful we got to celebrate another year for Rals. Happy, Happy 9th Birthday, Raleigh. You are so very loved!
