Cheers to the Weekend, Summer Has Started Edition

Hip, Hip, Hooray! As far as I'm concerned, as soon as school is out, summer has officially arrived. So. Here's what I'm saying CHEERS to now that we have kicked off summer with a bang:

CHEERS to...

...Surprising our kids...with a trip to the beach...with some of their BFFs...and ours! When Banks arrived home on his last day of school, I had a special note waiting for him in the driveway, letting him (and his younger sibs) know that we would be en route to a beach the following day!

Months ago, two of my girls and I each rented one-bedroom villas for each of our families to enjoy for a nice, long weekend to welcome in summer and celebrate the end of each of our oldest kiddo's graduation from kindergarten. So, last Thursday, we traveled to Hilton Head, where we parked our car and caught our assigned ferry to Daufuskie Island.

The island is so interesting! Where we stayed, which was in the resort area, there were GORGEOUS grounds (with a pool overlooking the beach), a nice golf cart, and pretty villas with large screened-in porches to stay in. There were also several yummy restaurants that we enjoyed for dinners while there. However, other parts of the island had these beautiful, but abandoned (?!), homes. Eerily strange but pretty nonetheless. Regardless, we loved our getaway!

The first night was one of my favorite times: the sun was setting and after grilling out steaks, we all headed to the beach so the kiddos could splash around in the low tide. There were horseshoe and hermit crabs galore, and it was just beautiful.

We had stunning weather the following day and took full advantage, arriving to the beach/pool early and staying until the last minute, when we had to get ready for our dinner reservation.

While the weather was not as nice the next day, we still headed to the beach (and the dads enjoyed a little rum tasting) and ended the day at the pool before enjoying a delicious Memorial Day weekend buffet and party at the club house.

All in all, we had a fantastic time and it was an awesome way to say GOODBYE to school and HELLO to summer!

...enjoying a fun pool party back at home. We arrived home on Sunday night and were able to get some good sleep (after a looooooong, rainy trek home, thanks to Tropical Depression Bonnie) so that we'd be well rested for our favorite pool party of the year. Although the forecast was a little sketchy, we ended up having beautiful weather for the party and so we arrived early and stayed late to have fun with friends of all ages. Soda Dives. A dj. A taco truck. Water balloon wars. Grown-up volleyball. Swimming, splashing, laughing. We had a blast!

...an old new 'do. Most of my 20s and 30s, I've had highlighted hair. But. It was time for a change. And by change, I mean a back-to-my-roots, low-maintenance, so-long-blonde debut. So, I have ditched the highlights in favor of my natural color: brunette!

...outdoor fun. We pretty much live outdoors in the summer and have already hit up our neighborhood pool several times, caught and housed several critters, played in the rain, had playdates wih friends, porched it in the evenings, etc. So far, we are off to a great start!

...family and friend love and support. To our family and friends who regularly check in, who have sent us messages, comments, and texts, who are showing us so much kindness and compassion throughout our adoption journey, thank you! We are thankful to have so many of our wonderful family members and friends in our corner as we do whatever it takes to bring our girl home. We love you.

...the weekend! After a low-key evening tonight, I'll be heading to Columbia tomorrow to throw my LAST SISTER BABY SHOWER!!!!! My step-sister, Shelby, is due with her first baby boy next month, so the rest of us sistas are throwing a fun shindig for her tomorrow. I cannot wait to share all the fun party details next week! Make sure you check back to see them and a big, fun announcement!

Have a great weekend, y'all!
